2014 MCA Zine Fair

Hiya! Today I am sharing a few snaps (sorry about the images did not take my SLR camera on the day) of my stall at the Sydney Museum of Contemporary Art Zine Fair that was held last Sunday, May 25th. What an amazing day it was!! A huge thumbs up to the MCA crew for hosting such an amazing event. BIG thank you to those who popped by and said hi at my stall or who bought one of my zines! Hope you are all enjoying them. Also met and made a few new lovely pals who were fellow zine stall holders.

Happy Mail Day Zine

Introducing my new publication - Happy Mail Day zine!!
As you know from my many posts I LOVE mail art and posting snail mail to pen pals and friends across the globe. So it was only natural that I dedicate a whole publication to 'Happy mail days'!
Inside you will find ideas about decorating your mail, creating themed kits, handmade stationery and papercraft Diys and more!

I am thrilled to say that I will be launching my 'Happy Mail Day' zine this Sunday (May 25th) at the MCA zine fair! An event that is part of the Annual Sydney Writers Festival. As a fellow zine maker and reader I have attended the MCA Zine fair event for the past few years. But for the first time this year I decided to apply for a stall and I was so delighted when I was accepted and given a place in this years fair.

So please do come and say hi if you do decide to come and check it out - would love to see and meet you.
Admission to the MCA Zine Fair is free and is open from 11am-4pm.

As well as launching my 'Happy Mail Day' zine I will also be selling my 'Pop Goes your Mail' letter art kits, 'Japan in A Collection' zine, mini hard copies of 'Little Book of Mt Masking tape' and 'My Life in Biscuits' zines.
Off course there will be a few more other paper-themed surprises exclusive to the days event!!

MCA Zine Fair 2012

It was one of my favourite days of the year today - the Sydney MCA 2012 zine fair! Here are some of my favourites from the day.

Workshop

There was lots of crafty Kawaii fun going on yesterday at the Mini Mart for my Kawaii Pop Rosette Workshop! Thank you to the talented lovelies who attended - big hugs.
The workshop began with a little introduction to their DIY Kits that included some self-made confetti paper (more on this soon), Kawaii Pop collage sticker set, How to DIY and some pattern masking tape that I made. Off course I also talked a bit about my fave craft tool - washi tape.

Fairy Bread Cards

These are my Fairy Bread Cards! I made these last month and they have been on sale in the Mini Mart Pop-Up Shop. They are all individually handmade out of cardboard and paper and say 'Happy Birthday With Sprinkles On Top' inside the card. I also designed and printed my very own sprinkle pattern envelopes, they are see through as I wanted the Fairy Bread card to look like it was wrapped in sandwich wrap. I had lots of fun making and designing these and hope they make a very special birthday gift.
I am looking to sell them in my online store after Mini Mart.

Mini Mart Launch

We had an overwhelming response from the crafty and creative community for the launch of the Mini-Mart Pop-Up shop on Wednesday night. For those who attend a big thank you for coming and supporting us, it was a great night and so lovely to meet and chat with some of you about Japan and crafty things!
Thanks must also go to Fbi Radio and the Rocks Pop-Up Project team for hosting the event!

Kawaii Pop Roesette Workshop!

Exciting news!! Next week (Saturday 15th October) I will be hosting a Kawaii Pop Rosette making workshop at the Mini Mart Pop-up shop! Eeeep! It would be lovely if some of you could attend. Each workshop participant will get one of these specially designed for the day Kawaii Pop DIY Kits, which includes all the materials need to make your very own Kawaii-Pop themed rosettes!
Spots are limited, so get in quick if you want to attend this crafty celebration xo

Mini Mart Pop-Up Shop

The day has finally come! Eeeep! The official launch for the Mini Mart Pop-up shop! Hosted by The Rocks Pop-up Project and FBi.94.5FM. The launch kicks of on Wednesday 5th of October (this week!) at 6pm. So please if you can, do come say hi, have a drink and check out some of the self-made stationery, party goods and zines we have on sale. I also made some little goodie bags that come with a free Japanese gift for the lovely peeps who purchase our handmade wares!

Polka Kawaii Rosettes

A few pictures of an exciting upcoming project I have been working on! My 'Polka Kawaii Rosettes' have left me and my workspace covered in glue, bits of washi tape, paper and fabric scraps - but it's been a colour blast of crafting fun!

mt wrap school

I found these amazing pictures of this mt wrapping school via a BNN books tweet.
It was held in Tokyo a month or so ago, it would of been a dream to attend this being a mt tape lover and crafter!
Love the wall installations of mt bags and hanging bottle flower baskets and the polka dot mt tape store - I would of gone broke here!

A4 Paper Festival Opening

The A4 Paper Festival had their opening night on Tuesday at The Paper Mill in Sydney and I got the wonderful task of selling zines at their zine stall.
The stall included zines from Mechelle B - folks loved her 'Little book of bearded chaps', Georgia Perry,Paper conventions very own Kit Palaskas whose Tiny book of disguises almost sold out and Paper Jewellery artist Anna Gleeson who was also exhibiting had a zine called 'A Playful search of beauty' which I wanted to purchase. As you can see by the table, so much to choose from. I also got to sell copies of my 'Little Book Of Mt Masking Tape' zine and 'Snap Tokyo Girls Bunting'.

It was clear that A4 Paper Festival founder Lisa Loxley's hard work paid off by seeing all the amazing paper artists she had curated for the event. Trial & Error's Paper City and Anna Gleeson's Paper Jewellery greeted exhibit goers in Paper Mill's street windows, inside were installations and 3D Paper works by; Hattie Newman, Jesse Brown, Matthew Roland and Benja Harney.I was in awe of Japan's Yoshinobu Miyamoto's giant paper dome sculpture! Some of these artists will be doing workshops hosted by the Paper Convention, so get in quick for tix!

Other stalls included The Paper Convention table which was selling posters, programs (works of art in itself) paper glasses, paper puzzle and Japanese paper airvase baskets from Upon a fold.

All paper from the night and for workshops are supplied by K.Doggett fine paper. I could see many people through the night having fun making paper dogs and notebooks. Love the hanging confetti pinatas!

It was a PAPER PARTY!

Snap Tokyo Girls Bunting DIY Kit + Zine

The A4 Paper Convention Collective festival begins tomorrow night! The opening will be held at Sydney's Paper Mill from 6pm. Along with Kit I will be helping at the A4 zine stall selling zines from some of Australia's most loved zine makers and artists. I too will be selling some handmade wares like my new 'Little Book Of Mt Masking Tape' Zine as well as a special 'Snap Tokyo Girls Bunting DIY Kit' that I have designed and made just for the night!

The 'Snap Tokyo Girls Bunting DIY Kit' includes an how to instruction sheet as well as Tokyo Girls stickers, Fluro coloured pieces of cardboard, twine as well as Washi (mt) tape - all to help make your 'Snap Tokyo Girls Bunting'!

I thought this would be a nice project for Tokyo fashion lovers to make, that will also pretty up the place and bring a little sense of Tokyo home!

MCA 2011 Zine Fair

The MCA Zine festival is 'the ultimate' zine event of the year, so as a zine lover and maker it's not to be missed! Like always there was so much to choose from! Here are a few pictures of the day and some of the lovely zines I purchased. I also took with me a couple of copies my new zine to sell; Little Book Of Mt Masking Tape'. Was also super excited to see Susy from distro Bird in the Hand selling copies of my first zine; 'My Life In Biscuits' on her stall.

I already had Hiki's Tokyo photobook and 'Inside Garden Plant' zine on my list of 'must' purchase as I am a regular reader of her Jollygoo blog and shopper at her online Japan stationary/zakka goods store UGUiSU. Hiki takes beautiful photo's that capture her life and travels in Tokyo. Just love the strawberry store in the above picture - Only in Japan!

Lee Tran Lam's 'Speak-easy #12 Food issue' zine was the perfect accompaniment to my warm hot chocolate and sit down at the Rocks Guylian Belgian Chocolate cafe in Sydney. Filled with top chef interviews, quotes, reviews and observations on restaurants from around the world make a 'foodie' must read. Its the little extras that come with Lee's zine that make it special like; stamped post-its and original photographs that are mt taped to the pages. How cute is this paper sandwich (above) made by Grace Lee.

For me a zine festival would not be complete without a copy of the latest issue of 'Spoonful'. Created by the delightful Thea, Spoonful is a happiness companion which puts the spotlight on unique crafters, writers and illustrators. I always enjoy reading the 'spilt milk' feature which is always an up-lifting story about failure. Issue #4 also includes elephants and musings on tea.

I have an on-going 'blog-crush' on Japan's Polkaros. Ros a lifestyle product designer based in Tokyo has made her first zine dedicated to traditional Japanese crafts. It was so popular that it sold out in the first hour of the fair! It's a 28 page zine filled with photos, illustrations, motifs/patterns, a make your own Hyottoko and Otafuku face masks and it's pages have hand-stitched binding. See here for a page by page video.

The Bird in The Hand zine store! Susy was lovely enough to sell my zine 'My Life In Biscuits' and made me feel extra special by giving me a shout-out in the MCA Zine Fair program - Thanks Susy!

Had a great chat to long-time friend Katerina Valentina who makes her own accessories and lingerie at her Salon Chaton stall. There was also some great zines found on the Beef Knuckles, Michelle. b,  Erin Space and John DC table.

Paper News

The Paper Convention is finally here! After attending one of the first Paper Convention workshops at Finders Keepers last year I am super excited about their upcoming workshops happening around Sydney in June at The Paper Mill & Object Gallery. The Paper Convention collective is a group of innovative peeps & emerging artists dedicated to creative paper making. Those behind the love affair of all things paper include Lox & Savvy's Lisa Loxley, Melbourne paper group Trial and Error and Matthew Roland- his illustrated work is often displayed at The Sweets Workshop.

A lover of all things paper myself....and making things with paper I am looking forward to their upcoming workshops. I have already made my booking for the 'Zine makers talk' with my fave bloggers the wonderful Anney B. and Kit Palaskas (Candy Castle)- to me she is like a paper version of 'Willy Wonka' & all things colourful. With so much unique craft talent, no wonder she has been hired as the new craft online producer at Better Homes & Gardens magazine!

Other talented 'paper giants' include Paperform wizard Benja Harney a maker of 3d paper installations seen on music posters, ads, magazines and books. Japanese Paper extraordinaire Yoshinobu Miyamoto will also be sharing his 3d paper skills during a talk and workshop. I think I am in paper heaven!

It seems that the world...including me is going crazy for all things paper, so it makes sense to have a magazine dedicated to just that! Enter the amazing Paper Runway magazine.Paper Runway magazine is edited by paper lovers Nikki Buckland and Maree Oaten. The first issue features; Jo Neville of Paper Couture, collage artist Nicola Starr, spotlight on independent artist and designer market Magnolia Square, paper products by Rob Ryan, Mae etc. How to make crepe paper flowers and confetti dipped goodie bags by Tokketok and Jayde Leader of Little Paper Lane talks mt tape....my fave paper product! I am all ready hanging out for the next issue!
