Making Marimekko
Finnish brand Marimekkoo launched a new store in Sydney a week ago! I paid a little visit on my lunch break and enjoyed browsing their kaleidoscope of floral print textiles, apparel and homewares. I wanted to take everything home in the store but given that their iconic pieces are quite exxy in price I settled for these napkins in my fave print.
I was also in awe of their store front fabric installations that included bicycles, trees, cars and poles wrapped in their stunning linen collection as well as giant Marimekko pillows!!
These pillows (seen in my below instagram snaps) inspired me to make my own 'paper' pillow version using their napkins.

ReplyHey,
ReplyI guess Marimekko has gone on a mission, they seem to be expanding quite alot opening stores around the world.. A nice surprise to see Marimekko on your blog :) Its true that Marimekko things are expensive but here (in Finland) you can make cool finds at flea markets with sellers who don't realise the worth of old Marimekko :) And if you go to a student housing area you can see so many windows with old Marimekko curtains and I'd bet that students are usually not the most wealthy people around.. ;)
Cheers from Finland! Really like your blog :)
Hello from Finland! Delightful to hear from you. Thanks for all the info about Marimekko, wish our flea markets had fantastic Marimekko products. xo
