Glossy Love: Real Living: September 2010

I have been enjoying the colourful spring page layouts and interiors of September's Real Living magazine.

Love the paper garlands on the cover made by The Paper Tie Affair. I'm also thinking of heading to Spotlight to make those gorgeous paper wall flowers as well! See pg.61 for instructions.

Design For Use garlands are also a must purchase too, as seen in the above spread.
I wish I knew about this store when I was in Melbourne last week! This is where online shopping comes in handy!

This issue includes 32 pages of kitchen & bathroom interior ideas too! Love this Paris inspired kitchen! Want to have a go at making the ribbon and foam inspiration boards that I have seen in all the home magazines lately.

Can't wait to see what is in store for the next issue now!

My First Blog Award!!

Wednesday, September 15, 2010 0 Comments A+ a-

My Life As A Magazine has won it's first blog award! Thanks to all who nominated me, it means the world and gives me more reason to continue blogging and writing about all my loves.
Thank you also Sam from Drop Dead Cutie for this wonderful Kawaii award! xo

This award does come with some "rules' of acceptance which include:

The Rules!

1. Display your award, link to who gave it to you.
2. List 3 reasons why you yourself is cute!
3. Post a picture of yourself as a young little cutie.
4. Describe the least cute thing you do.
5. Post a picture/video you find incredibly cute to the point of melting.
6. Make sure you pass on the award to between 1 and 5 awesome bloggers!
7. Link to or write out the rules.

Here are my answers!

2) Reasons why myself is cute: I can wiggle my nose like a bunny, I love playing with and buying Kawaii toys, I like to sing the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie song 'You're truly, scrumpcious' to my beautiful cat Salem, who is also named after the cat from 90's show Sabrina the teenage witch!

3) Picture of me when I was 3, on my fave froggy floaty!

4) The least cutest thing I do is tucking into a big burger! this can get very messy. I might be small, but sometimes I eat like a giant :)

5) The cutest video I have seen is this You tube Clip of two Otters holding hands simply adorable, at one point they loose grip, then one swims over and reaches for the others paw! Kawaii Kawaii!

6) I would love to pass on the award to some of my fave Kawaii bloggers;

Drop Dead Cutie- Who I think deserves an award herself!

Pretty Pretty Yum Yum- The ultimate Kawaii food blog!

Asking For Trouble- Sells lots of handmade Kawaii goods and a great shopping zine on Tokyo!

Melbourne Visit

Saturday, September 11, 2010 2 Comments A+ a-

If your wondering where I have been for the past few days, the answer is Melbourne! I went for a much needed break as well as to do some quality retail therapy. On my short trip I took along my journal to record my visit and stay in illustration (see above) and photographic form, along with a written shopping guide. I might make this into a zine when I'm done! Let me know if you would be interested in buying this too!

As well as shop all over Melbourne's CDB, China Town and Brunswick & Gertrude Streets in the Fitzroy area I went to four Exhibitions! Tim Burton & Screen Worlds at ACMI, Melbourne Museum Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition and The State Library Melbourne Shopping history exhibit; Til you Drop! I will be posting a review of each in the future.

Melbourne really is the shopping capital of Australia....sorry Sydney. They just seem to go all out on their visual merchandising and store window displays, here are some of my faves;

I was in awe of Sportsgirl Melbourne's Bourke Street Store! Loving these rainbow raindrops that were hanging from the front. Inside was also a dream with vintage tea cups hanging from the wall, a hot dog stand filled with accessories and a big postbox at the back for you to send a Sportsgirl postcard FREE to anywhere in the world!

Lindt Cafe on Collins Street, obviously after seeing this macaron tree and creative macaron paint palette...I just had to have some!

Now for some great Fitzroy Stores!

It was the bunting flags that caught my eye with this Gertrude Street Cottage Industry store that sells, threads and other vintage items. It was also a location for a scene in the Aussie Melbourne Drama Offspring!

Little Salon also on Gertrude Street was my fave Fitzroy store that sells a lot of handmade wares, MT Tape, cards and prints from Frankie magazine fave Bell and Boo as well as Bec Orpin notebooks..I bought this one in the picture!

Babushka Dolls in Brunswick Park

Liked the confetti in this Fitzroy, Johnston Street window display

This is the BEST window display I have ever seen! A shop called Harem on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. Being a big fan of Disney I just loved it's Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs inspired display- how cute are the owls?

After hearing so much about this wonderful art/design gift and novelty homewares store, Third Draw Down was a must visit on my list. Check out the back room for the colourful streamer and confetti art display.
You can't go to Brunswick Street, Fitzroy without visiting the Queen of craft and all things handmade, Pip Lincolne's Meet me at Mikes! Loved her scrapbook wall display and vintage Golden book pages with newspaper that covered the entry doors.

Zakkaya is a Japanese good and homeware store on Johnston Street, Fitzroy.

Melbourne's known for all it's wonderful cafe and graffiti art culture, so I spent heaps of time discovering all these wonderful laneways.

Jenna loves her FREE street press!

I always keep an eye out for FREE postcards in Sydney when I'm there. I picked this one up a while ago, it was to advertise Illustrator Elise Hursts Strangely Familiar exhibition.

Spring is here!

Thought I would celebrate the first day of Aussie Spring with this beautiful recipe from this months Notebook magazine and some holiday pictures from my trip to Japan during their famous 'Hanami' Cherry Blossom season in March-August.

Cherry Blossoms at Uneo park budding and blossoming! Uneo Park is known for having special Hanami picnic festivals during spring as seen in this last picture.

Philosopher's Walk in Kyoto is a must visit during Cherry Blossom season. I also had Cherry Blossom ice-cream here!

Flowers outside of the Kyoto, Imperial Palace grounds

Looking through the Cherry Blossoms at Himeji Castle, Kyoto

Our Japan trip started with the Cherry Blossoms budding and as we left the Cherry Blossoms where just starting to fall as seen on this Ginza Street.
